The George West Mansion was purchased in 2001 by Jeffrey Wodicka and Neil Castro of Saratoga Springs and opened as The Mansion of Saratoga for Memorial Day 2002. Their goal was to restore the home of this industrialist to its original grandeur.
The high-end Italianate Victorian was converted from a yellow and white plain looking structure to the multi-color “painted lady” that it would have been in 1866. Working with noted interior designer Mr. Edward DeRocker the interior was changed from a plain white walls to shades of gold, lipstick red and deep plum colors. While bedrooms were increased the original structure stands today as it did when it was built.
Jeff and Neil had fun scouring the country, from Ballston Spa, NY to California, to find just the right pieces of furniture and art to fill the parlors and guest rooms. Every piece has been lovingly selected and curated to preserve the spirit of George West and showcase the beauty of Victorian elegance.
Over the last 5 years the owners have been working to establish cabaret programs at the Inn using the recently converted carriage house and the amazing culinary talents of Chef Bieber to bring to the area entertainment not found in the City of Saratoga. In 2015 we give rise to “801 Supper Club” with an impressive list of talent.
Jeff and Neil have been together for over 30 years and were finally able to make it legal in September of 2008 during an intimate ceremony in Palm Springs, CA. They are also the co-owners of Casswood Insurance Agency in Clifton Park, NY & Palm Springs, CA.
Their daughter, Lori Wodicka, is the Co-Director of Operations along with Executive Chef Rick Bieber. Lori has been with The Mansion since 2002 working as the Innkeeper and Event Coordinator. She has directed over 300 events at the Inn and is passionate about making every client feel special. In addition to this dynamic duo, it wouldn’t be right to not mention the rest of The Mansion team from housekeeping to events. Without the love and passion they all have for their jobs, The Mansion wouldn’t be what it is today.
